It’s just past midnight here in NY and I’m sleepless…
What to say beyond that it’s been so exciting so far? Gigi and Allyson are wonderful and their four cats (and a dog) are just lovely, just adding even more life to their lives.
The flight has been somewhat difficult, with a 24h delay due to an uncanny lenghty boarding (over two hours waiting, and that ’cause of some fog on Heathrow… yet the sun was shining when I got there!). Then I had to wait in queue for three and a half hours, just to hear that I had missed the new connections they had already planned. Unconceivable! They could’ve texted me… But the dinner, the hotel and the breakfast were duly paid (ah, the usual british fair play!) so I can’t really complain…!
And then, on the flight, a subbed Iron Man video on demand! How long have I waited to see the movie on DVD, just to receive it as a blessed present? Watched it twice! :D
JFK… The same carousel, the same cordial customs awaiting then…
Times Square!
Yeah, took a cab with a pair of Berliners who dropped me off (and paid way more than half the cab’s fare!) right there, in Times Square. Picture time, then another cab and finally I got to the hosts’ house!
A quick introduction to the guests (Gigi, Allyson, Arturo, Leopoldo, Marina, Eliot and Varo), a gifts’ moment (I brought many homeland supplies for my fellow italian), dinner and bed.
Missed the Yanks game on Sunday, but yesterday and today I made it up with some lenghty walks downtown and midtown. Been to East Village, Bowery, Little Italy, Chinatown, Canal Street and Broadway, Ground Zero (and Brooks Brothers), Civic Center, West Broadway (and almost TriBeCa), SoHo and Greenwich Village. Then Union Square, Broadway, 5th Avenue, Times Square (again!), Grand Central Terminal, Chrysler Building, UN HQ, Murray Hill, Empire State Building (a truly breathtaking view!).
As of now, I’m relaxed after a very good salad by Ally, the last episode of Fringe and a a goodhearted laugh with Jon Stewart’s Comedy Central (go for it, McCain!).
G’nite all.
